Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

Having an unavailable Curt Schilling at least through the 1st half will change the bartering options imho to even toy with the idea of an additional catcher...it would have to be someone who is coming...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

This may not be a popular opinion, but I believe Kotteras is the answer in 2009 and beyond. He had a bad year last year, but he has more potential than that.I say let Tek walk after this year and go...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

The catching strength in the minors is mainly in the lower levels. Even if Kottaras gets his bat going in AAA, he's not that swift defensively (though he's still a decent prospect). Brown's the...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

I agree w/ Billy most of the talent is still percolating in single A. If the RS end up replacing Jason it will be with someone already in the mix. How long is Jarrod Saltalamacchia tied up with the...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

Valid points Mr. Jim Rice. I kinda think the main thing with catchers is 'intelligence', more so then the stat comparison's. An intelegent catcher is truely the quarterback on the team. Everyone else...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

I would give Tek a 2 year deal. His bat is not going to be any worse than the last two years. Kotteras is not the answer now or in the future. He took a huge step back in 2007. The future is Wagner...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

I know it's only been a couple of games, but Kotteras has some good pop in his bat. He looked good in the clutch last year, won a few games with walk off homers. His defense is getting better. I hope...

The wild card is Jason's agent and the fact that Jason hired his agent knowing damn well how he works and what his value system is. Can the RS get a deal done prior to the season that will feel like a...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

I think Varitek is wayyy overrated in Boston. The rest of the league probably has a better perspective of his true value than Bostonians do. I hope he misses time (not that I hope he gets injured or...

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

Varitek is an average catcher. If the Red Sox used Kotteras and Brown all year behind the plate they'd probably end up with the same record they would have with Varitek back there.

Re: Jason Varitek Revisited

I must say I am impressed with Kotteras so far in Spring Training. It's too bad there's not room on the 25-man roster to carry an extra catcher besides Mirabelli, because using Kotteras once a week...
